Empowering Communities to take responsibility
Helping parents help their kids
Empowering local leaders & communities
Promoting shared experiences
Many parents among Bakehila's target population lack the knowledge, experience, time, and/or language skills necessary to help guide their children through school and other life challenges as they pertain to Israel. Bakehila offers a number of programs for these parents in order to help provide
them with the tools needed to work together with their children on school assignments and to help navigate them through life in Israel.
o A parent's involvement in their child's education is a key factor in the success of the child. Bakehila puts special emphasis on encouraging parental involvement in all of our programming.
o These programs include workshops, group facilitated discussions, parent-child activities and visits to the enrichments centers in their neighborhoods.
Bakehila believes in empowering neighborhood authorities to take responsibility for themselves, their children and their futures. By working together with schools, community councils, and families, Bakehila helps foster local talent and leadership to take communal responsibility. Every project instituted by Bakehila has been in partnership and with the approval of the local authorities and residents. Various organizations, youth movements and educational players are given the tools and professional guidance needed to carry on with programming even once Bakehila has “phased out” of the neighborhood- Bakehila’s ultimate goal.
Each year, Bakehila’s staff works closely within selected impoverished neighborhoods to plan and execute multiple community events throughout the year. Local residents, primarily the young adults, are encouraged to work together, forming a communal bond and benefiting from fun shared experiences for the entire family. The events vary from street festivals, to holiday celebrations, to school carnivals, bringing together children, teens and adults for fun and memorable experiences, strengthening their sense of community.
